ONE-DAY FILM DEVELOPMENT, PITCHING, AND STRATEGY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP

This one-day, six-hour intensive workshop is designed for emerging and mid-career filmmakers with projects in development who want to elevate their pitching skills, strengthen their pitch package, build a clear development strategy, and learn how to network with intention.

Through hands-on exercises, live pitching, and guided feedback, participants refine their pitches, identify project strengths and weaknesses, learn how to adapt to different industry settings, and develop a focused strategy for both development and networking.

"I feel more confident in both my pitching skills and my pitch materials after the workshop. The structured approach to crafting a compelling pitch, combined with practical exercises and feedback, helped clarify key messaging and storytelling techniques. The workshop also provided valuable insights into what funders and festival programmers are looking for, allowing me to refine my approach for different audiences. The opportunity to practice in a supportive environment made a big difference in building confidence for real-world pitching scenarios."

- Daniella Bonan

"You add a great combination of talking about what needs to be in the pitch deck, as well as some time to practice pitching and work on it. It is a nice combination. It was a pleasure being a part of the workshop and to be honest It made me feel like going back to college too as I didn’t want it to end"

- Derek Chudy

"I feel more confident in pitching because of this experience, having the opportunity to push myself and pitch in front of more experienced people than me helped me. Also, all the material was clear and easy to understand, which in my case is something that I struggle with, because of my native language, but in this workshop, I felt I was in a comfortable place."

- Camila Sierra

workshop outline

Project Foundations & Pitch Package Content

Participants begin by examining their projects in their current state, identifying both creative and strategic strengths while learning how to recognize weaknesses without undermining the project. This session explores how scope, genre, and budget influence industry perception and decision-making. Participants are introduced to the core elements of a pitch package, gaining clarity on which materials matter most at different stages of development and how to avoid common mistakes that can weaken an otherwise strong project.

logline and elevator pitch lab

This hands-on session focuses on refining the core language of each project through guided writing and feedback. Participants work on writing and polishing a concise, compelling logline and crafting a flexible 30 to 60 second elevator pitch. Emphasis is placed on prioritizing essential information, eliminating unnecessary details, and adapting language to different contexts. The session includes a first live pitch exercise, with a discussion on how pitching changes depending on the setting.

development and project strategy

This section helps participants step back and think strategically about their projects in the long term. It focuses on aligning goals with realistic development pathways, avoiding common traps that lead to development stagnation, and understanding how labs, grants, and markets fit into a broader career and project strategy.

networking

Networking is reframed as a strategic and human practice rather than transactional pitching. Participants learn the do’s and don’ts of industry networking, how to approach conversations with intention, and how to identify who they actually need to connect with at their current stage. The session emphasizes building relationships without overselling a project and following up in a professional, natural way that supports long-term collaboration and career growth.

Live Pitch Practice

The workshop concludes with a final live pitch exercise where participants apply everything they have learned throughout the day. Each participant presents their project and receives structured feedback from the group and facilitator, allowing them to identify immediate improvements and leave with increased confidence and clarity in how they pitch their work.
